DUBLIN/GALWAY, March 6, 2015 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, Junior Achievement Ireland, in partnership with Fidelity Investments Ireland, held a Careers for Girls event for 150 students at Fidelity’s offices in Dublin and Galway

Students from Colaiste Bride, Clondalkin, Dublin & The Mercy Secondary School, Newtownsmith, Galway City participated in the event where Fidelity volunteers shared the opportunities that are open to women in the workplace, through a series of presentations and interactive workshops. During the half day event, students were introduced to a variety of roles in both technology and business operations and learned about the wide range of career options available to them.

“This is the third year that Fidelity has welcomed students of this age to participate in an International Women’s Day event. Diversity in the workplace is extremely important to us; it fuels creativity and encourages innovative thinking across the organisation. We are delighted to partner with Junior Achievement to help these young women to think about their future careers and encourage them to finish their education”, said Julie Davenport, senior vice president and head of operations and corporate shared services at Fidelity Investments Ireland.

Junior Achievement Ireland partners with Fidelity Investments to bring business people into the classroom to educate students about the kind of careers available to them when they finish school. The organisation aims to bridge the gap between school and the world of work and to inspire young students at risk of leaving school early to remain in education.

For over 10 years, hundreds of Fidelity Investments Ireland employees have volunteered their time in Irish primary and secondary level classrooms. During this time they have introduced more than 8,500 students to business, maths, economics and entrepreneurship while raising their awareness of workplace skills.
