On 7th of April 2017 two groups of 5th year science students from Regina Mundi College and St. Aloysius College were hosted by Janssen Sciences Ireland UC and Janssen Pharmaceutical Sciences UC respectively.
Visiting school staff and students were given the opportunity to learn about some of the different roles available to the students in a pharmaceutical business in Ireland today. Members of the Diversity and Inclusion Team welcomed the students and gave a brief introduction to the Cork operation, along with the history of the Johnson & Johnson group. Following this, the visitors were given a tour of the plant and met some employees who outlined their career path and hosted a Q&A session with students.
Pierce deCourcy, Career Guidance teacher in Regina Mundi College commented: “I want to thank Janssen and Junior Achievement Ireland for this opportunity. The students learned a lot and they were so impressed with the friendliness and accessibility of everyone who interacted with them. It also showed them realistic and achievable pathways into industry and STEM careers in general. It also gives Subject Teachers another way of linking their subject to actual jobs and careers.”
