Mary was a student in St. Dominic’s Secondary School where volunteers from Accenture ran the “Career Success” programme with her class when she was in TY. Now working in KPMG, Mary volunteered to facilitate the same programme with the TY students in Hartstown Community School. Throughout the Accenture supported programme Mary helped students prepare for the world of work by developing their communication, team-work and interview skills. To end the five weeks, students were invited into KPMG offices in December to partake in mock interviews with volunteers, Lynn, Daniel, and Louise.
The TY Teacher, Eoin Brady, said “The Junior Achievement programme was a corner stone of our TY in Hartstown Community School, it was a great foundation for our students as they choose their subjects and explore their career options. Mary was a very enthusiastic volunteer, and we were so lucky to have her. The students related extremely well to her as she grew up close to the school, she is someone who represents Dublin West so well.”
The students engaged so well with Mary, with one student commenting “I enjoyed Mary’s enthusiasm when working with us, she was kind and understood our way of thinking, she was best suited for this role.” Junior Achievement would like to thank Mary for her enthusiasm and experience, the students really benefitted from the programme. It was wonderful to have a JAI alumna volunteer to give back to students so they could receive the same guidance as she did as a student.
