Over 200 students in Galway have benefited from increased levels of financial capability after receiving the MetLife Foundation supported Finance your Future programme facilitated by MetLife volunteers.
Finance Your Future is designed to enable students to understand how to manage their own personal finances and to link education and career choices with the work of work. Over 1,500 nationwide have received the programme taught by trained volunteers from the business community.
To celebrate the achievement of the programme students from Our Lady’s College, Galway showcased their new money management skills during a special Volunteering Week 2018 event in MetLife, attended by MetLife volunteers and Mike Cubbard, Deputy Mayor of Galway City.
Rory Conway, Chief Compliance Officer at MetLife, said: “Junior Achievement Ireland offers MetLife employees a fantastic opportunity to give something back to their community and advance financial education for young people, which is part of MetLife Foundation’s global commitment to financial inclusion. By teaching JA programmes such as Finance Your Future, our employees develop their leadership and communications skills, while sharing their knowledge and skills with local students.”
Conor Diskin, Our Lady’s College, Galway commented on the impact of the programme on his students:”The Finance your Future programme has been a huge success. It gives our students a real-life experience of managing their finances and also helps them to link their education to their future careers. It’s such a beneficial programme at this stage in their education.”
A further 250 students in Galway have benefited from additional JA programmes facilitated by MetLife business volunteers which are designed to encourage young people to remain in education and help them to develop the skills they need to succeed in a changing world.
